AREAS OF CONCERN – WE WORRY ABOUT:
1. Antibiotics, when not absolutely necessary. We all know that heavy use of antibiotics damages the natural (friendly) bacterial flora, which are the body’s first line of defense against the bad bacteria. Cycling antibiotics constantly carries serious risks of emergence of resistant strains and compromise of the immune system through damage to the gut.
2. Any treatment or drug that irritates mucosal surfaces and/or increases inflammation in the body. Inflammation drives many disease processes. For every treatment used that causes irritation and/or inflammation, gentler alternatives exist that can be tried under your doctor’s supervision; preferably use an anti-inflammatory substitute that helps to cool inflammation. Dr. Warren Warwick, inventor of the oscillatory vest for CF said “I avoid all aerosols that provoke coughing by irritation.” This would include the use of hypertonic saline. Use of Pulmozyme is also a concern. For more information see: “My thoughts on Living With Cystic Fibrosis”
3. Fluorinated pharmaceuticals. Toxic effects of fluoride accumulation in humans are well known for fluoroquinolones but most are unaware that toxic effects can be cumulative from exposure across many drug classes. To determine if your drug is a fluorinated pharmaceutical, type the drug name with the word ‘structure’ in your internet search. When you open the results and see the structure, there should be no F’s for Fluoride. You can also search here: http://www.slweb.org/ftrcfluorinatedpharm.html |
||
4. Prednisone, when not absolutely necessary. You hear this from your doctor as well. Did you know that prednisone, in addition to its known side effects, is an immune suppressant?
5. Miralax. Miralax is Polyethylene glycol, which has been associated with neurotoxicity. |
